About Barbara Antonsen
For the 19 years that Barbara lived in Sedona she worked to improve the quality of the community’s arts and education. Her legacy is rich.
Founder of the Sedona Arts Festival she was it’s president for 1989 until ill health forced her retirement in 1998. Because she led such a successful effort to preserve Posse Grounds Park for present and future generations, she is being honored with “Barbara’s Park.” Featured will be a distinctive outdoor performance shelter where generations of Sedona citizens may gather and enjoy the community’s talent as well as contemplate the silent beauty of the site of open space she worked so hard to preserve.
After her passing in 2002, Keep Sedona Beautiful recognized Barbara posthumously for her “Outstanding Community Service.” For many years she’d worked to make Sedona a better place. Soon after she moved here in 1983 she served as presdent of the Western Welcomers, as board member of the Sedona-Flagstaff Symphony League, and on the Citizens for Incorporation committee. She also worked as a volunteer for the Sedona Arts Center and the City of Sedona, and was a member of the Yavapai County Community Foundation. In addition she served on the founding committee of the Sedona-Oak Creek unified School District.
Sedona misses Barbara Antonsen, but her contributions will never be forgotten.
